Susan May Barker

December 14, 1949 — August 15, 2025

Susan May Barker, 75, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, with her beloved husband by her side. Born on December 14, 1949 in Melrose, Massachusetts to the late Ralph and Dorothy Gile. Susan was a devoted wife of just shy one month of 55 years to Raymond L. Barker.

Susan dedicated her life to nurturing young minds; both as a beloved children's librarian, at Fuller Public Library, and as a devoted substitute teacher with the Hillsboro-Deering School system. She found great joy in sharing stories, sparking imagination, and encouraging a love of learning in every child she met. Whether it was reading aloud in the library or stepping into classrooms with a calm and caring presence, Susan made a lasting impression on many students and families. Outside of this, she was a member of Smith Memorial Congregational Church and played in their handbell choir.

Susan is survived by her loving husband Raymond, her loving daughter and son-in-law, Heather and John, grandchildren Cameron and Payton, a daughter Stacey, grandchildren Mason and Olivia, a great granddaughter Kennedy and sister Donna.

Susan's big heart, wisdom and generosity will be missed by all who truly knew her.
