Steven F. Connor, 84, a lifelong resident of Henniker, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
He was born to the late Ted and Helen Connor on April 1, 1941, in Concord, NH. Steve graduated from Henniker High School in 1959. After high school Steve went on to honorably serve our country in the NH Army National Guard for 6 years and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
In 1973, Steve started Connor Backhoe Services, which he proudly owned and operated until his passing. He would say if he hasn’t dug in your yard, he has in your neighbors. He was proud of being a resident of Henniker and was highly involved in the community. He served on many committees and boards within the town and was instrumental in the formation of John Stark Regional High School. Steve was also a proud member of the Henniker Fire Department on which he served for 64 years. He was honored to be a member alongside his father, and then his son and grandson. He was proud to not only have three generations of the same family on the roster at the same time, but to be the first family to have four generations serve the town.
While Steve was a very active member of the community, family was incredibly important to him. He loved spending time with his family and friends, going for rides in his Jeep, eating out, going to antique tractor shows and was a member of the Northeast Massey Collectors Club.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Linda (Cleveland) Connor, their two children, Jennifer and her husband Brian Vajgrt, Jeffrey Connor and his wife Trisha, and his grandchildren Will Connor and Helen (Eli) Connor, all of Henniker. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol and her husband Fred Brunnhoelzl of Henniker, and Kathy and her husband David Dunlap of Whitefield, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his niece Lisa M. Dunlap of Whitefield, whom he adored, and cousins Jim, Joe and Merrill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s name to the Henniker Fire Department’s Seagraves Fund, 216 Maple St. Henniker NH 03242 or to the Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury St. Concord NH 03301.
All are welcome to join the family for a graveside service on Sunday, May 4 at 2:00pm in the Henniker New Cemetery on the north side, 83 Old Concord Rd, Henniker. A celebration of Steve’s life will follow at the Henniker Fire Station.
