Raymond Allen Houghton, Sr.

April 22, 1943 — June 10, 2025

Raymond A Houghton Sr., born April 22, 1943, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on June 10th, 2025.

He started his career alongside his father and brothers as Houghton & Sons, which later became Windsor Construction Co. Inc. He then went out on his own as Raymond Houghton Carpentry which included chimney sweeping, where his daughter Tracy later joined him. He also had a long career working for Wyman's Chevrolet in Hillsboro, as well as working for the Highway Department for the Town of Hillsboro.

He was a member of the Army National Guard for 5 years from April 1960 until April 1965. He Obtained the rank of Corporal E4 Service Battery 2nd Howitzer Battalion 172nd artillery. He earned the rank of a rifle sharpshooter.

He had over 20 years of service with the Hillsboro Fire Department, where he retired as a First Lieutenant. He served as a current member of the Hillsboro American Legion post 59 for 41 years.

Ray also wound and maintained the town clock for over 20 years that was located at Smith Memorial Church.

He also enjoyed flea marketing on Sunday, making birdhouses and many other projects. He took great pride in keeping his yard maintained with his many riding lawn mowers and enjoyed driving his grandkids to school every day. What was most important to Ray was spending time with his family no matter what it was, from salting/sanding driveways, being the on-call handyman, or telling us how he would’ve done it (the “Beepa/Grandpa way”).

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Donna (McCulloch) Houghton, his sister Merlene (Houghton) and her husband Richard Patten, sister-in-laws Sharon Houghton (Wallace) and Janis Houghton (Virgil Sr). As well as by his children Pam Houghton and her partner Doug, Tracy and Warren Rooks, Raymond and Annette Houghton, Bridget and Jesse Kelley. He cherished his nine grandchildren, Michael & Jennifer Houghton, Caylin, Christopher and Joey Kozlowski, Serenedy, Alyssa, Ryan and Curtis Kelley. Ray had many nieces and nephews that adored him. He is also remembered by many other children that affectionately called him BEEPA.

He is predeceased by his son Ryan Houghton, his Parents Virgil Sr. and Mabel (Wheeler) Houghton, his siblings Ronald Sr., Virgil Sr., Wallace Houghton, James & Cheryl (Ashley) Houghton, Gloria Lugtig, and Francis & Rhonda (Geddes) Houghton.

There will be a celebration of life that is open to the public at the American Legion located at 538 West Main Street, Hillsboro, NH. From 1pm-5pm on Sunday June 29th, 2025.
