Mary Ann Gallagher Taylor

d. August 3, 2025

Mary Ann Gallagher Taylor, 86, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Hillsborough, N.H., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025, at Suncoast Hospice, Pinellas Park, Fla. She was born in New York City to Roy Gallagher and Aura B. LaBrecque Gallagher, both deceased.

Mary graduated from Hillsborough Deering High School in 1958. Following graduation she married Stewart Allen Taylor. Stewart’s career as a construction mechanic in the "Seabees" battalion of the United States Navy took her to Virginia, Rhode Island and Mississippi. Stewart died of cancer in December 1977 while on active duty which left Mary a single mother with six children to raise on her own. She relocated to St. Petersburg for new opportunities.

Mary was able to continue her education and was eventually licensed as a medical technician. A career in home health care followed. Mary’s granddaughter, a nursing student, wrote in a note to her: “I keep your kindness, bravery, and selflessness in my heart at all times, especially when I am with patients.”
Mary loved to knit, sew, quilt, and watch baseball — she was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Roy Gallagher and Richard Gallagher; and a sister, Rose Gallagher Hunt.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Gallagher Totte of Antrim, N.H., and sisters-in-law Beth Blakney Gallagher of East Washington, N.H., and Jane Taylor Barter of South Chatham, Mass.
She is also survived by her children – Stewart Allen Taylor, Jr., of St. Petersburg; Susan Lee Vinson of St. Petersburg; Laura Lee Romage of Jacksonville, Fla.; David Michael Taylor of Fort Collins, Colo.; Thomas Allen Taylor and his wife, Yong, of Frederick, Md.; Linda Lee Mauri and her husband, Andrea, of Prescott, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 25, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsborough. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Bennington, N.H. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to an animal or veterans charity; or to a local hospice.
