Imogene Ruth Abble

August 11, 1949 — March 26, 2025

Imogene R Drabble

8/11/1949 – 3/26/2025

Imogene passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, the 26th of March 2025. She is preceded by her husband, Kenneth; four brother’s “Jigger”, Johnny, “Buzz”, and Ralph; two sisters, Sophie, and Jane. She is survived by two sisters, Janice and Candy, and brother-in-law Gary, sister-in-law Karen, and her husband Fred. Her two children, Angelia, Raymond, and daughter-in-law Gigi. Five grandchildren Cliffy, Jenny, CJ and his wife Kaylyn, Becca, and JD as well as four great grandchildren, Ellie, Piper, Phoenix, and Jameson.

Originally from Danby, Vermont. She graduated from Mill River High School in North Clarendon, Vermont. She met her husband, Kenneth A. Drabble, at a party where their story begins. As the story is told, they got to know each other over several games of checkers where she whooped him so badly it embarrassed him to no end, and he told her not to bother coming around anymore. To that, she replied with “What if I do”? His response was not one that people would have expected. He got a ring and they were married by a justice of the peace whom he told her mother was a wino from a local bar he hired to perform the service. She joined him two days before what would have been their 56th wedding anniversary. Imogene had an at-home daycare and later worked at Boundtree Corporation and spent many years of service involved with the Lions Club and was a recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship award for service. Those who were blessed to know her always felt the warmth and love that radiated from her. She made a home that was always filled with friends, family, and “stray” kids from the neighborhood whom she tasked Kenny with keeping out of trouble. She truly loved the Christmas season, and she would transform their home into a winter wonderland, decorating every square inch. Imogene made sure her family and friends knew she loved and cared for them in the acts she took joy in, from baking their favorite sweets to handmade crafts like a sewn gift basket filled with goodies at every holiday. A truly wonderful soul who has reunited with the love of her life, who always said “it’s never goodbye, it’s I love you and I’ll see you later”.

Per Imogene’s wishes, no service will be held; instead, a backyard barbecue will be hosted at a later date for friends and family.
