Donna M. Grant

DEERING, NH: Donna Marie Grant, 64, wife, mother, granny, daughter, sister, nurse and friend, left us December 15, 2023, after a brief illness. She celebrated the 35th Anniversary of her 29th birthday last May. Many labels fit our Donna, but most of all she was a caregiver. She took care of those around her, whether it was 2-footed or 4-footed. She was always adopting animals in need so it seems only fitting to say that she leaves behind not only JR, her true love, and husband of 25 years, her daughter, Meagan, two wonderful grandsons, Logan and Tucker, siblings, Cheryl, Daryl, Judy, Gayle and Janet, plus various in-laws, out-laws and many nieces and nephews, but to also say she leaves behind Harley, Scooby, Fozzie, Precious, Elvis, Sully and Bonnie. Donna is being welcomed home by her mother, father, brother and brother-in-law, in the long list of those who have passed on before her ... and of course, Timer, Maya, Bubba, Roscoe, Annie, Brandy, Shelby, Buster, Lilly, Rooster, Chapeau and a Pitou or two, you get the idea. In her early career as an oncology nurse, Donna helped others to live out the remainder of their days with peace and with surprising humor. She always felt that hospitals were too grim, so she liked to liven things up a bit. In her later career, as a school nurse, she gave up the peace and calm of a hospital for the commotion and chaos of a school where she cared for boo boos, real or imagined, with compassion and still more humor. Some of her smallest charges just needed someone to listen and understand and Donna was the right person for that job as well. Donna and JR, aka Hun, loved to tool about in their motorhome and ride motorcycles and snowmobiles. Meagan got Donna into horseback riding and then Donna convinced JR. They used to ride horses together and had a sulky that JR wanted to race, and she wanted to amble along in. She loved to shop and he loved her so he humored her shopping and sewing addictions. In death, as in life what comes next is a mystery, so while there will be a Celebration of Life (Donna would have hated a “Memorial”) at a later date. When and the form it will take are also unknown. The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation service Hillsboro, NH is assisting the family. Donna was a firm believer in rescuing those who had no voice to speak up and rescue themselves so, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite shelter or animal rescue and perhaps plant something in your own garden in her honor.
