Adelemarie Bohanan

Adelemarie (Foster) Bohanan, 85 of Contoocook, New Hampshire passed away at home on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Adele was born in August of 1939 in Newton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Leslie and Priscilla (Kendrick) Foster. She grew up on a farm in Weston, Vermont and later moved to King Elm Farm in Cornish, New Hampshire where the family raised Morgan horses and dairy cows. She was a Western show horse rider, competing regionally in fairs and other contests. Adele attended the Thompson School at the University of New Hampshire where she studied horticulture and animal husbandry. She married Glenn Bohanan in May of 1962 in Cornish. They were married for 62 years, until her death. Together, they raised four children on Bohanan Farm. In addition to working on the farm, she drove a school bus for 14 years where she was recognized for her quick thinking and steady nerves when a brake failure on the bus endangered the lives of the students on board. She was able to safely bring the bus to a stop. She was an avid birder and enjoyed trips to Plum Island and Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. She always had her binoculars out on family vacations. She loved flowers and kept an amazing flower and vegetable garden. She could always be found there throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Her knitting, sewing, and ceramics she spread far and wide as homemade gifts, made with care and love. Baking was yet another passion of hers, with ample breads, pies, and her famous holiday monkey bread piled high at every occasion. Adele loved sports. Her favorite, by far, were the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were her team since they played in Brooklyn. Remaining to cherish Adele’s memory are her husband, Glenn Bohanan; her children, Sarah Bohanan, Heather Robertson (m. James Robertson), and Monte Bohanan (m. Sarah Launchbury-Bohanan); her grandchildren, Michelle Fitzgerald, Kirk Bohanan, Sean Bohanan, Meagan Wilson, Josiah Robertson, Nathan Robertson, Abraham Robertson, Elias Bohanan, and Isobel Bohanan; her great-grandchildren, Carter-Rose, Shayla, Riley, Charlie, Clara, and Agnes; and her sister-in-law Jolly Kimball, and brother-in-law Craig Bohanan (m. Santina LaCava). Preceding Adele in death are her son Rory Bohanan, and her brothers Donald and Arthur. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Visiting Nurses Association for their excellent care which allowed Adele to live comfortably at home. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home at 32 School Street in Hillsborough, New Hampshire on Sunday, February 23 from 1 - 3 pm. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Adele’s name may be given to a charity of your choice and may be sent in lieu of flowers.
