James A McGuire, Jr

Hillsboro, NH James A McGuire Jr., (Jim) 80, son of James A. McGuire Sr. and Lillian H. (Whitney) Titcomb, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at Concord Hospital surrounded by his family. Jim was born on April 1, 1944, in Concord, NH. He is survived by his wife, Ellen McGuire. He and Ellen met in high school at one of his basketball games. They recently celebrated a 60-year wedding anniversary. Jim and Ellen enjoyed traveling to Moncton, New Brunswick where they met Mike and Christine, the innkeepers and developed a lasting friendship and would visit them annually. Jim retired from Monadnock Paper Mills after 41 years as a Machine Tender with crews that looked up to him for his work ethic and knowledge. During his years at Monadnock, he got to experience working with his sons and other relatives before retiring in June of 2007. He was a devoted golfer at Angus Lee Golf Course. You could find him there almost every day. His last golf game was one of his best games, when he won the round and shot a 39. When he wasn’t on the golf course, he was in a bowling league in Keene, NH. He also enjoyed watching all sports. Jim and Ellen had VIP Tickets at Fenway Park which included access to the field and being able to watch the Red Sox batting practice from the Green Monster seats in April 2023. His love of baseball began in Little League and continued throughout high school where he played against Red Sox legend, Carlton Fisk. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events as it reminded him of when he used to play in high school as well. Jim was a family man first and foremost, he is survived by his Uncle David Whitney; brothers Keith McGuire and Fred Titcomb, and sister Kim Macneil; four children, Lis Picard (Matt), Chris McGuire (Michelle), Shannon Greene (Wendell), and Jamie McGuire (Ali); four grandchildren Andrew (Felicia), Lexi, Joe, and Owen; and three great grandchildren Henry, Theo, and Liam; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an avid jokester (hence the April Fool’s birthday) and enjoyed making all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren smile. His focus later in life was to make sure they knew how much he loved them. He and Ellen would take the kids to many family-orientated places. He loved teaching them new things like games, woodworking, sports, and painting. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 23 at 11:00 at Harvey Memorial Cemetery on Shedd Road in Hillsboro. A celebration of life will follow at the Masonic Temple in Hillsboro.
