Deering, NH Edward (“Poppy”) James Ferguson Jr., born September 11, 1947, in Hollis, New York, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 . He was the son of the late Edward James Ferguson and Marry Anne (Vidoni) Ferguson. Edward is survived by his beloved wife Geraldine Ferguson, whom he married on April 12, 1970 in Lindenhurst, NY. Ed and Gerri raised four children; Deborah, born in New York, and Edward, Christopher, and Amanda, who were born in New Hampshire. The family moved to New Ipswich, NH in 1973 and later to Deering in 1975. Ed took immense joy in being a grandfather to his ten grandchildren: Thomas, Jack, Abby, Noelle, Emily, Hannah, Natalie, Anna, Liam, and Megan, who were the light of his life. A proud veteran, Edward served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 as a Specialist 4 in Stuttgart, Germany. He loved his country and took great pride in his military service. Edward was a precision tool and instrument maker by trade. He was a skilled craftsman who was known for building their home, fabricating bench rest rifles, and creating tools for clock repairs. In his free time, Ed could be found at his scroll saw cutting out Christmas ornaments, planting Christmas trees or bringing joy to so many little ones dressed in his Santa Claus outfit. As a young man Ed enjoyed working in the woods with his team of oxen harvesting the winter’s firewood or clearing the driveway of snow. He instilled the value of having a good work ethic into his children and was extremely proud of who they all became as adults. He was a pioneer in robotics education, co-founding the FIRST Robotics team at Hillsboro-Deering High School with his friend Phil Dewit; and competing as far away as Disney World in Florida. Services for Edward will be held at the New Hampshire National Cemetery in Boscawen, NH, on Thursday, October 24, at 12 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
