Reverend Peggy K Boyce

Pastor, Antrim First Presbyterian Church

Reverend Peggi K. Boyce, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Antrim, died Thursday January 19, 2012 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester of complications from a heart attack. She was 64 years old.

Pastor Peggi, as she liked to be called, was a prominent and colorful figure in Antrim who helped out at many civic and social events. She loved strange hats and would wear them to shock and amuse townspeople at public events. In past years she blessed the skate boarders before races during the town’s Home and Harvest Festival and last year blessed the Indi 500 race cars and drivers at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.

She was highly proficient at needle point and many of her creations could be found at her church. Pastor Peggi also was very interested and concerned about national and international news events and seldom held back her opinions about what was going on in the world. And if you had a few minutes or more she loved to share stories about growing up in Mexico and her family life during her younger years.

Pastor Peggi, in addition to being pastor at the Presbyterian Church, was moderator of the Presbytery of Northern New England.

Pastor Peggi was born Margarita Ana Boyce on April 6, 1947 in Mexico City, Mexico, to Presbyterian minister Dr. and Mrs. James R. Boyce. She was the first woman pastor ordained in her Presbytery. She served pastorates in Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and Antrim.

Among her four brothers and sisters, Pastor Peggi is survived by Dr. James R. Boyce Jr. of Williamsburg, VA, a sister, Dr. Florence Boyce Garza of Wichita Falls, TX, and William E. Boyce of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Elizabeth Boyce.

She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and grand nephews and grand nieces.

A memorial service will be held at the Antrim First Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012
