Washington, NH Barry Earl Spears, 71, of Washington, NH died suddenly on Saturday June 11, 2011 of a heart attack. Born June 2, 1940 in Boston, he was raised in Lexington, MA. He enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from Lexington High School, and after receiving an honorable discharge from military service in 1969 he returned to Massachusetts until 1997 when he moved to Washington, NH with his wife Maura MacNeil. He was employed by Farmsteads of New England as a Professional Mentor at the time of his death. Barry was well known for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and storytelling ability. He was also known for his compassion and warmth. He celebrated life to its fullest and was thankful for each day he had on this earth with his family and friends. He lived with an independent and creative spirit, and was respected for living the last years of his life with deep spiritual faith. Barry’s interests and hobbies included sharing his love of music with others and he was known for his wonderful singing voice. His other interests included Patriots football, watching movies, cooking, reading military history, and driving through the rural countryside of New Hampshire with his wife. He took great pride in his property, and paid special attention to his vegetable garden in the summer months. He also enjoyed berry picking and referred to the wild blueberries and blackberries on his property as “Barry’s Berries.” He loved the rural lifestyle he found in Washington, and he was proud of the life he created for himself and his wife. Barry was devoted to his wife Maura and to his extended family. In addition to his wife he leaves his mother Barbara Farnham Spears of Andover, MA, his sister Sandra and brother- in-law Ed Deloury of York, Maine, and his brother Robert Spears, sister-in-law Joan, and niece Ashleigh of Lexington, MA. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. He was predeceased by his father, Earl J. Spears who died in 1987. He also leaves behind his beloved Australian Cattle Dog, Eva, who was at his side at the last moments of his life. A celebration of his life will take place at the Washington NH Congregational Church on Saturday July 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
