Damon E Murray age 75 of Hillsborough, NH formerly of Somerville, MA Passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Delray Hospice of Palm Beach County. FL.
Damon was a veteran and served in the US Army as a Military Policeman. He went on to work as “Sergeant of Arms” at the Boston Federal Reserve. He also worked as a plumber’s assistant and as head custodian of the northern 7 schools in the Conval School District until he retired in 1998.
Damon was a proficient marksman. While he loved all animals he enjoyed hunting deer and was very successful. He also supported Hides for Habitat which would take the deer hides and sell them so that food could be dropped for the animals in rough winter weather.
He was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and an active supporter of the NRA 2nd Amendment Task Force which lobbies for our right to own and bear arms. He also enjoyed Trap shooting and was a member of the Deering Fish and Game Club for many years.
Damon was a member of the American Legion Post #59 in Hillsborough for 30 years. He often volunteered to help with Bingo or other special functions. He maintained the rifles the Legion uses for Holidays and services. He was also one of few who helped build the horseshoe pits behind the Legion.
Over the years Damon owned 18 motorcycles, almost all of them Harley-Davidsons. He enjoyed riding the back curvy roads of NH alone or with friends.
Since the age of 2, Damon always had a dog, except when he was in the service. He was fascinated by dogs especially, no matter what breed, size, or color. He loved taking his last dog “Bailey” and a neighbor’s dog “Muffin” for long walks in the woods. He loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his second wife Kathleen (Kitty) Murray, his sister Jean Dunham, and his brother Robert Murray and his wife Karen. He had one niece, one nephew, 2 grand nieces and many cousins. Damon was the oldest son of Damon Murray Sr. and Virginia ( Luongo)Murray, both deceased. His first wife, Brigid Conneely also predeceased Damon. Her cremains will be buried with Damon’s.
Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church located in Hillsborough NH on Church Street . Services will start at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 6th, following a Mass of Christian burial we will proceed to the cemetery for a brief service and then go to the American Legion for a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, Your Local ASPCA, or a charity of your choice.
