Hall J. Murphy of Hillsboro, NH died peacefully on July 3, 2011 at Hospice House in Concord, NH; he was 83 years old. He was born in 1927 in Hillsboro to Edmund and Geraldine Murphy. He attended school in Hillsboro and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 when he joined the 91st infantry in Manila in the Philippines where he was attached to a construction battalion.

As a young man he worked for the Hillsboro Highway Department before moving his family to East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He worked as a foreman for Forest Products Lumber Company in Massachusetts for the next thirteen years. After returning to Hillsboro in 1964, he held a position as a heavy equipment operator before becoming employed as building foreman for Bennett Builders. Hall had a reputation for his fine craftsmanship especially for cabinetry and fireplace mantels.

After many years in the construction business, he semi-retired, continuing to work at Patenaude Lumber Company in Henniker , NH . After fully retiring, he enjoyed spending his time creating custom made furniture.

Hall is pre-deceased by his loving wife, Jean of 59 years. He is also pre-deceased by his brother David Murphy and his sister Dr. Lila Murphy. He leaves his sister Tessie Murphy of Manchester, NH, his sister Rita Dunlap of Antrim, NH, his two brothers, Floyd Murphy of Hillsboro, NH and Jere Murphy of Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He also leaves four children: Arthur Murphy of Antrim, NH, Bette Ann Murphy of Hillsboro, NH, Marsha Murphy of Hillsboro, NH and Judy Fournier of Hillsboro, NH. He had seven grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

There will be no calling hours.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, 2011 At 10 am in St. Mary’s Church in Hillsboro, NH.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301.
