Donald J LaValley

 

Donald J. LaValley, 83, entered eternal life on Thursday, August 25, surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years, Audrey and his children and family.  He has left a legacy of integrity, honesty and the importance of family.  He and his wife founded the Bittersweet Fabric Shop in Boscawen in 1968.  They received many accolades for their commitment to family and the sewing industry, the most prestigous being the induction into the Sewing Industry Hall of Fame in Las Vagas, NV in 2011 and are well known for their many acts of kindness to the community.

 He was an avid gardener, hybridizing iris and took pride in his vegatable garden and fruit trees.  He was employed for many years at NH State Prison.  He was an outdoorsman who spent endless hours with his sons hunting turkey and deer and loved fishing.

He was a communicant of Parish of Christ the King, St. John the Evangelist Church.

Donald was the son of John R. LaValley, SR. and Olive Merchant LaValley.  He was predeceased by his brother, David, his son, Donald J. LaValley, Jr, and grandson, Scott A. Bonin.  In addition to his wife, Audrey, he is survived by Carol A. LaValley Bonin and her husband, Donald of Hudson, Fl and their sons, Donald and Douglas and their granddaughter, Kelsea; Kerry LaValley and his wife, Jean of Penacook; Joan LaValley Smith and her husband, Allen Sr. of Boscawen and their sons, Allen "AJ" and Jerald; James LaValley and his wife, Karen of Lakeside City, TX and their daughter, Meredith; David H. LaValley of Boscawen; Jean LaValley Delano and her husband, Stephen of Webster and their daughters, Brittany, Ashley and Trinity; Richard A. LaValley and his wife, Ida (Meg) of Webster and their daughter, Jena.  His family also includes Barbara Mock of Webster and his brothers, John R. LaValley, Jr. and Thomas LaValley.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday August 30, 2011 at 10 am in St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord, NH.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Penacook, NH.

 A reception at St. John the Evangelist Church PAC will immediately follow the burial.

The Holt -Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Henniker NH is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Carmelite Monastery in Concord or Parish of Christ the King in Concord.
