Sara Jane (Sally) Krone

1921-2011

WASHINGTON, NH

Sally Krone, wife and loving mother of three, passed away Sunday morning, August 21, 2011 in her home in Washington, NH. at the age of 89 where she had been ill for some time. She was born on September 27, 1921 in London, England, the daughter of musical performers George Rasely and Helen (Guenther) Rasely .

Sally traveled with her parents as an infant, later growing up and attending school in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She went to Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Iowa where she met her husband Ralph Krone.  They were married in New York, lived in Baltimore, Maryland while Ralph studied at John's Hopkins University and then later moved to Lawrence, Kansas in the early 50's.  In 1966 during a family vacation to the East Coast, Sally tried finding the property in Washington which her parents had purchased back in 1920.  When they found it was for sale, they purchased it, rebuilt the house in 1971 and later added a barn and antique shop.  Living in Washington, mostly during the summers, they eventually moved here permanently in 1979 when Ralph retired.

Sally was involved in many wonderful and meaningful activities during her lifetime. In Lawrence she began her later interest in genealogy, set up and organized the First Congregational Church library and was instrumental in starting and overseeing the Head Start program for low income preschool children. After moving to Washington,  she and Ralph set up and ran Tintagel Antiques, traveling together to antique shows and on trips through Maine and New Hampshire to find items to sell in their shop. She became involved in her property and the town's history and later became a president of the Washington Historical Society, she was archivist, genealogist and on several committees involving the history and preservation of the town. In 1989 she co-wrote the book "...A Sacred Deposit" The meeting House in Washington, New Hampshire with Ron Jager - a book detailing the history of the Washington Town Hall.

Sally had a love for Washington and New Hampshire;  she loved "her" woods behind their house, walking on the many trails, always coming back with stories of discovery. She enjoyed hiking up Pitcher Mountain, going on long drives and entertaining her children, grandchildren and friends when visiting.

Sally is survived and sadly missed by her son, Christopher of Washington, New Hampshire, who took care of her throughout her lengthy illness, her son, Michael of Branson, Missouri and her daughter, Royanna, of Santa Barbara, California.

An informal gathering of friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th at the Congregational Church of Washington NH.

Donations can be made to the Washington Historical Society and would be greatly appreciated.
