James Carr of Briar Hill Road, Contoocook
died Tuesday June 7, 2011 at home with his family by his side.
Jim was born on January 6, 1933 in Salem, MA,
the son of William and Julia Anna Carr (nee. Waldron).
On February 20, 1960, James married Katherine Kerins at Saint Michael's
Church in North Andover, MA.
Jim graduated from St Mary's High School of Lynn,
MA in 1950. In 1954, Jim earned his
Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy from
Maryknoll College of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
During the 1960's Jim earned Masters degrees
from Boston College and
Boston University and in 1974 he earned his
PhD in Counseling and Special Education from Boston College.
Jim served in the US Army from 1955-1958 and was stationed in Japan. He
taught Latin and English at Millis High School,
in Millis Massachusetts. He served as
Director of Guidance at Lebanon High School
in Lebanon, NH. Jim worked for the NH Department of
Education for 32 years serving as a consultant for Vocational
Education and Career Guidance and Testing
and as Director of Title IV. Jim was also employed as an
adjunct professor for
New England College. Additionally, he was a
consultant for Ohio State University where
he advised the US Air Force and the governments of China and Turkey in the
areas of vocational education and standardized
testing. Jim published many books, manuals and articles on
comprehensive guidance and standardized testing.
Jim's hobbies and interests included gardening, coaching little league,
researching his Irish heritage and teaching CCD. He enjoyed spending time in
the White Mountains, at the ocean and at
Lake Ossipee. Jim was an avid Red Sox fan.
James was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Bill, Edward and
Steve. He is survived by his wife Katherine K Carr of Contoocook and their
seven children: Michael Carr and his son
Thomas of Contoocook, Kathleen Carr and her children Caitlin, William, Brid
and Sarah of Gilmanton, Thomas and Karen Carr
and children Kayla, Lindsey, Ryan, Patrick and Allison of Gilford, Kevin and
Barbara Carr and their children Brendan,
Brigid, Annie and Matthew of Sutton, Maura and Bob Curtin and children Ian
and Molly, of Webster, Ellen Tidd and children Annika, Margaret and Sophie
of Hopkinton, and Elizabeth and Jonathan Kovar and sons Jackson and Finnegan
of Concord. James is also survived by his sister Mary Jane Veronese of
Peabody, MA and
brother John Carr and his wife Ruth of
Virginia Beach, VA. and several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours are from 5-7 pm on Sunday June 12 at the Holt-Woodbury
funeral home in
Henniker, NH. A funeral mass
will be held Monday June 13 at 11 am at
Saint Theresa's Church in
Henniker, NH.
