Ryan Edward Bishop, 21, died tragically Thursday, April 28, 2011 while canoeing on Lake Powell in southern Utah. Ryan was born August 31, 1989 in Concord, the son of Christopher and Jean (Krantz) Bishop and younger brother of Christopher John Bishop, Jr. Ryan grew up in Bedford, and then moved north with his family to Lake Massasecum in Bradford. There he pursued his passion for wakeboarding, fishing and mountain biking with his brother and friends. He graduated from Proctor Academy in Andover, in 2008. During his time at Proctor he studied and traveled abroad extensively. He was a member of Proctor’s Eastern Ski Team, as well as the varsity soccer and cycling teams. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Adaptive Ski Program at Mt. Sunapee Ski Area and the New England Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He attended the Gore School of Business at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had just completed his junior year. While at college, Ryan developed a passion for rock climbing, back country skiing, long boarding and dessert camping with friends across the western states. Ryan will always be remembered by his family and friends for his huge engaging smile, his larger-than-life personality, his kind disposition and the unconditional love that he shared with his family, friends and the great outdoors. Ryan’s personality and free spirit managed to touch all of those that he met and he will be sadly missed by his family and any friends. Other family members include his loving grandparents, John and Elisabeth Krantz of Hopkinton, and Dr. Edward J. Bishop of Lakewood, Ohio; uncles and aunts, Jack and Betsy Krantz, Jr., David Arnold, Susan Arnold, Susan Forkin, Mark and Michele Bishop, Sarah Bishop, Richard and Sherri Bishop, Betsy and Michael Burn, and Charles Kirschenbaum; cousins, Peter and John Arnold; Sarah and Dan Forkin; Austin, Evan and Eric Bishop; David O’Neil; Tierney, Edward and Andy Bishop; Dillon and Danielle Burns. A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Pat’s Peak Ski Area, Route 114 in Henniker. Casual dress is suggested. Friends and family are encouraged to bring their favorite story of Ryan to share. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Ryan Edward Bishop Memorial Scholarship at Proctor Academy, PO Box 500, Andover, NH 03216, or to the charity of one’s choice.
