John D Thomas

John (Jack) David Thomas son of the late Clinton M. Thomas and Bessie F. Thomas died Saturday, June 5TH 2010 in Concord Hospital , N.H. He was graduated from Williamsport High School PA in 1938 and worked as a gear cutter foreman before entering the Army Air Corps. His girlfriend upon graduation from Mansfield U. traveled in wartime by train to Denver CO where they married June 7TH 1945. Jack died two days before their 65TH wedding anniversary.

Mr. Thomas received a Bachelors degree from Capital U. in Columbus OH and his Masters from Westminster Collage, PA. He took course work towards his Doctorate in 6 Universities. He excelled in track and field taught school for 34 years in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Cape Cod, MA. He was a psychometrist and taught advanced math and psychology, he also coached baseball and basketball.

Jack had a great sense of humor and friends compared him to Henry Fonda with his dry wit. He kept us laughing. He had very high moral standards saying, "I do not smoke or drink or chew nor run around with girls that do." He suggested we have inserted into our wedding vows, "Thou shalt never interfere with my fishing or hunting plans."

Jack started fishing at 5 and never stopped until he fell out of his boat once too often, when he was well into his 80's. He was a skilled fly fisherman and traveled to Canada and Scotland and all the streams in between to enjoy his hobby. Known as "Mr. Pleasant Bay" the Thomas' visited Cape Cod every summer since they married and move to their beloved home on the Cape in 1963. Jack caught 1000s of pounds of Striped Bass, he had found his calling. He kept meticulous records of weather conditions, wind direction, fish prices, etc. The Thomas' were parishoners of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port MA for more than thirty years. They also traveled extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Europe and enjoyed a number of Cruises.

Their son and his wife built and apartment in their Hopkinton N.H. where Jack and his wife June resided since April 2009. Jack is survived by his wife June Anita (Tobias) Thomas, his Son William his wife Kathy their son Sean, Bill's daughter Jessica, and three step grand children Stephanie, Eric and Michelle and several nieces and nephews.

The cremation services were performed by Holt-Woodbury Funeral Homes in Henniker N.H., where this obituary will also be displayed at www.holtwoodburyfh.com.

Private services were held at their Hopkinton home by Rev. Gordon Crouch of the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton. To remember Jack, June suggests you do a random act of kindness for a stranger.
