David Feather

David Feather, 85, of West Deering, NH died Monday December 6, 2010 at the Concord Hospital. Born May 18, 1925 in Springfield, Vt, to Smith & Edith (Morse) Feather. To be added to beginning with his history: He served in World War 2 and received a Bronze star and the Purple Heart. Bachelor of science Degree from the Mass. College of Pharmacy in 1952. He was a member of EAA, Lyons Club President, Civil Air Patrol and Selectman of Deering for 1 year. In 1954 he moved to West Deering where he purchased a house and land to create his life long dream, his own grass landing strip for his airplanes, which later also became known as the Hawthorne Feather Airpark. In 1955 he met and married his beloved wife of 55 years. He owned and operated the Hillsboro Pharmacy for many years. He went above and beyond by personally making deliveries to his patrons who couldn’t get to the store. He would even open the store in the middle of the night if needed. He was beloved by all that knew him. David, enjoyed many hobbies in his life. His first mode of transportation was a motorcycle, which he continued to enjoy for many years. He also founded the Cork Plains Militia Snowmobile Club in the early 70’s. He had a passion for new technology. He assembled many him self from kits that he bought from Heath Kit, a. television, Booney Bike, computer just to name a few. He loved the computer age and stayed current with it till the end. Other hobbies included Go Cart Racing at the age of 57, also Minnie Sprint Racing at Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare. Other hobbies included Sailing, Water skiing Glider Flying, model airplanes, wood working, and painting. At the age of 63 he took up skiing with his grandson and daughter, which he hadn’t done since his early teens. He also built an Iceboat (in the living room), which he also enjoyed with his Grandchildren and family. In retirement years he purchased a motor home and with his wife traveled cross-country to the Grande Canyon and back. They also took many trips to Nova Scotia to visit relatives there. His greatest passion was flying which he shared also with his family. He was honored to have survived 2 tree top landings the last one when he was 78 yrs. He also was a participant in the Young Eagles program held at the Hawthorne Feather Airpark. His other passion was singing. His beautiful Bass voice could be heard above the rest. He sang with the Methodist Church Choir, The Hillsboro Community Chorus, The Cheshire Men’s Barbour Shop Coretet, and the Monadnock Community Chorus. His charisma for life was contagious for all that new him. All that knew him, especially his family, will miss him. We love you Dad and may you now be flying with the Angels and singing in Heavens Chorus. Survived by his wife Jean D (McAlister) Feather, of West Deering, NH, 3 Daughters, JoAnn Druscilla Feather Barrett, of Hillsboro, NH, Linda Mae Feather, and Heidi Jean Feather, of both of West Deering, NH, 1 Brother James Feather, of Rochester, NH, 2 grandsons, Several Nieces & Nephews, & Cousins. Memorial Service will be held at the Methodist Church on December 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm. The Rev Cindy Nickerson pastor will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the NH veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen, NH.
