Leon J. Riel, Sr., 88 died Saturday February 6, 2010 at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen after many years of declining health.

He was born on December 25, 1921 in Adams, MA. Leon was the Son of the late Domina and Edna (Gladu) Riel, Also Predeceased by 2 Brothers.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. Until his retirement in 2002 he was employed at Excalibur Shelving Systems in Hopkinton, NH. Leon in the 60’s became quite proficient as a roller skater and advanced to the professional level in the greater Manchester area. He was an avid woodworker and gardener. Leon was an active member for many years in the Henniker Lions Club.

Leon is survived by his wife of 18 years, Catherine A. (Rene) Riel, 2 Sons, Norman Riel of Berlin, Leon Riel Jr, and his wife Linda of Salisbury, 3 Daughters, Linda L. King and husband Paul of Barnstead, Bonnie Hebert of Tamworth, Tammy Beaudoin and significant other John Wheeler of Boscawen, 8 Grandchildren, Tracy Guay, Jerrid Riel, Katie Riel, Lisa Purdy, Robert Robinson, Troy Robinson, Kescia Beaudoin, Bryan Beaudoin, and 9 Great Grandchildren. 1 Brother, Raymond Riel and family, of Penacook, 1 Sister, Irene Landry of Penacook.

Also, 4 Step Children, David P. Currier of Henniker, Louise Bell of Dedham, Ma, Rene Murray of Malden, Ma, and Richard P. Currier of Norwood, Ma, and 5 Step Grandchildren, 7 Step Great Grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 10.30 AM, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Old West Hopkinton, Rd, Henniker, NH. The Rev Mark Dollard Pastor will officiate. A reception celebrating his life will be held in the church hall following the service.

Burial will be in spring in Henniker New Cemetery, Henniker, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the cure of Breast Cancer, Attn: Donor Services P.O. Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75256-0309 in Leon and Catherine Riel’s name.
