Thomas Edward Peterson, 82 of Henniker, NH passed away Saturday April 24, 2010 at his home. He was born in Newark, NJ on May 2, 1927 to Franklin W. and Florence S. (Hatch) Peterson. Tom retired from an executive position with the Boy Scouts of America in 1978. he was posted to offices in Bridgeport, Ct and Lowell, Ma. His career in the Boy Scouts rounded out several years of volunteering as both Scoutmaster and District Commissioner in the Calvin Coolidge Council in Vt. Tom’s adult life was given to services to country in the military, and service to the communities in which he lived. He volunteered in Fire Department Ladder Companies in Windsor, Vt. and Claremont, NH. As a member of REACT, he was also part of an ambulance crew in Claremont, NH. He held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the NH civil Air Patrol. He spent several years as a Juvenile Probation Officer while living in the Lowell, Ma area. Tom has a long history with Police Departments in Chelmsford, Ma, and Henniker and Washington, NH. He filled several positions from Auxiliary Officer, to Parking Patrol, to Deputy Chief. He has worn many hats during his retirement years in Henniker. Besides police work, he was a member of the planning board, Bail Commissioner, Justice of the Peace, and instructor in basic computer skills at the Senior center. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 59 in Hillsboro, NH. Survived by his wife of 61 years, June E. (Walker) Peterson, They were marred in Boonton, NJ, on March 19, 1949 and raised five children, J Dyan Peterson-Miller and husband Darrell, of Oklahoma City, Ok, Karen G. Baker and husband James of Henniker, NH, Susan M. Carradini, of Derry, NH, Daniel E. Peterson and wife Dr. Jacqui Aitkenhead-Peterson, of Bryan, TX, and Melanie E. Pawl and husband Alan, of Derry, NH, 10 grandchildren, 3 Great grandchildren, 1 Sister Lorraine Peterson, of Florida, 1 Brother Franklin Peterson Jr., of Kissimmee, Fl. A celebration of his life will be held Friday April 30, 2010 from 3-6 PM in the Henniker Community Center, Henniker, NH Burial will be private in Henniker New Cemetery, Henniker, NH.
