Virginia (Symonds) Garlow, age 94, of Main St., Contoocook, NH, died at home Thursday (2/25/2010).

Born in Concord, NH (2/9/1916) the daughter of Arthur G  & Winnifred (Chase) Symonds.

She graduated as the valedictorian of her Hopkinton High School Class of 1934. She was a graduate of Keene State College and Boston University. She studied under Arthur Fiedler.  Virginia was a music teacher for over 50 years, teaching in 20 towns throughout NH.  She began her career in 1938 in Charlestown, NH, VT and Connecticut.  Virginia retired from teaching music in 2000 at the age of 85, from the Washington Elementary School.  She is a member of the Smith Memorial Congregational Church in Hillsboro, NH. 

Survivors are a son, Arthur S. Garlow, and wife, Susan, of Contoocook, NH, a daughter, Gail C. (Garlow) Rowe, of Deering, NH, five grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.  Also deceased by a brother, Bruce K. Symonds, who died in March of 2008.

Calling hours will be Monday, March 1^st from 5-8pm at the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home in Hillsboro, NH.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 2^nd at 11am at the Smith Memorial Congregational Church on Main Street in Hillsboro, NH with Rev. McLeod officiating.

Burial will be in spring in the Contoocook Cemetery, Contoocook, NH.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
