Walter R Valley
|
Walter R. Valley, 81, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Hillsborough, NH. He died at home. Walter Robert Valley was born May 13, 1928 in Central Falls, Rhode Island to Ernest and Florida (Beaudoin) Valley. Walter was a graduate of North Attleboro High School in Massachusetts, class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 – 1949, in Aircraft Approach Control (GCA), taking part in the Berlin Airlift. He worked in industry for several years, becoming a master carpenter. Walter then attended Rhode Island College, while beginning his teaching career. He was a Math/ Industrial Arts/Shop teacher at both North Attleboro Junior and High Schools until retiring in 1985 to Hillsborough, NH. Walter earned his pilots license at the age of sixteen. In recent years, he channeled his love of flying into building and flying radio-controlled airplanes; and, as a member of the Concord (NH) Aero-Guidance Society, flying his airplanes at that Society’s flying field in Hopkinton, NH. Walter also found it nearly impossible to say no to any invitation to fly with a friend up to Sanford, Maine for breakfast. Walter was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hillsborough, NH serving the church in a variety of ways over the years. He sang in the choir, was a Trustee, served one year as Lay Leader, assisted with Vacation Bible School, took great joy in ‘working’ a church supper in any capacity. Just a couple of weeks ago, he was peeling potatoes for a Saturday night supper! There are also a lot of woodworking projects around the church today that are the result of Walter’s talent. Walter is survived by his second wife, Norma (Young) Valley, and by three children from his first marriage: Debra Milstein (Louis) of Malta, NY; Karen Gibbons (David) of Attleboro, MA; Glenn Valley (Alisa) of Hanson, MA; two grandsons, Alexander and Christopher Valley, and a brother, Russell Valley of Canandaigua, NY. An older brother, Ernest Valley of Detroit, MI and a sister, Muriel Johnson of Mattapoisett, MA, predeceased him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 1 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church on Henniker Street in Hillsboro, NH. The Rev. Rodney Dobbs will be officiating. The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service Hillsboro, NH is in charge of arrangements.
