Richard "Bruce" Snair

Richard “Bruce” Snair, 73, of Henniker, NH, died at his home Friday May 22nd 2009 in Henniker. Born in North Conway September 25th, 1935 to Richard S. Snair and Ruth (Murphy) Burdwood, Bruce had a passion for teaching, cooking, playing the drums, and New Hampshire. He graduated from Kennett High School in 1953, Plymouth Teachers College 1957 and Plymouth State College 1972. While at Plymouth Teachers College he was co-founder of their first tennis team, joined the United States Army Reserves (R.O.T.C.) and was Class Vice President in his senior year. He was also a proud member of the Masons. Bruce started teaching at Newport Junior High School in 1957, and over the years, his teaching career brought him to Penacook High School, The Derryfield School and finally to Hillsboro-Deering High School where he also served as Vice Principal. He then went on to work for Nathaniel Hawthorne College and Plymouth State College. His love of cooking led him to a career change and the purchase of The Nook Restaurant in Henniker. He later retired from cooking from the Greater Manchester Mental Heath Center. His passion for playing the drums had him active in the Swiss Orchestra at the Eastern Slope Inn in North Conway and later with Walter Heaths Band. He could be found at many different jobs during the summer including lifeguarding at state parks. His love of New Hampshire, Henniker, the White Mountains, History, music and his wife was obvious during many discussions with his friends at the Henniker Pharmacy and the Jin Jin Restaurant. His survivors include his beloved wife Irene (Colby) Snair of Hillsboro House Nursing Home. A brother David Snair of Hooksett NH, and a stepsister Bonnie Treecarten. Daughters include: Mary Miller and Kimberly Rose of Florida; Pamela Walsh of Concord NH; Vicki Coffey of Massachusetts; and sons: Richard “Dick” Snair of Concord NH, Robert Snair of Washington NH, and Gary Snair of Hillsboro NH. Granddaughters: Ali Murayda, Rachel Foote, Phoebe and Zoe Miller, Kassidy & Kaelyn Snair Grandsons: Robert “Bobby” Snair Jr., Bryan and Stephen Coffey. Nieces: Cynthia Snair and Lisa Snair Bliven as well as several other nieces & nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Henniker Congregational Church Maple St. Henniker. On Thursday June 18th at 5:30 PM. Memorial donations can be made to the Henniker Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 91, Henniker NH 03244.
