Annie E Colby

 

Annie E. Colby, 84, went to be with her husband, Roy J. Colby and Jesus, on January 18, 2009.  Annie died at home in Deering, NH after months of loving care by family members.

She was born in Lisburn, County Down, Northern Ireland on April 22, 1924, one of seven children of Robert and Annie (McCourt) Curry.

Annie attended school in Ireland and worked at a World War II aircraft factory near Belfast, Northern Ireland.  During this time she met her future husband of fifty-two years, Roy J. Colby, stationed in Ireland. After coming to America in 1946 she proudly became a US citizen in 1958.

She worked for Sylvania in Hillsboro for twenty-three years, followed by a time working with her husband for Intrepid Farms in Hillsboro and also in Carpenteria, CA for a few years eventually retiring in Hillsboro.

Nan, as commonly known by family and friends, loved to knit and crochet for her children and grandchildren. Visits from family were very special and listening to Irish music was well loved.

Nan was predeceased by her husband Roy J. Colby, two brothers Joseph and Lawrence, and three sisters Peggy Bell, Sally Clements, and Frances Craig.

She is survived by one brother Bertie Curry of Lisburn, Northern Ireland, her son Melvin  R. Colby of Deering, NH, and two daughters, Palmla C. Burt of Orange, VT and Sylvia A. Colby of Henniker, NH; three granddaughters, Jennifer Lange of Lynn, MA, Stacy Colby of Goffstown, NH and Tracy Colby of Kaneohe, HI; three grandsons Jamie Burt of Columbus, OH, Ross Colby of Concord, NH, and Alex Colby of Henniker, NH (Ross and Alex lovingly referred to their grandmother as “The Nan”); two great-grandsons Tyler Bechtle of Goffstown, NH and Henry (Hank) Burt of Columbus, OH; two great-granddaughters Karen Mitchell of Goffstown, NH and Kyla Lange of Lynn, MA; and her faithful canine companion Harley.

A private celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family and inurnment will be at the NH State Veterans Cemetery located in Boscawen, NH.
